Guided Fly Fishing on the Pit River
Being that the Pit River is the longest river in California, there are literally countless places to fish on just this one river. Most of the river is made up of boulders, making this a more difficult river to wade, but a slow and steady pace can make for a very rewarding day of fishing for wild rainbows in a serene and secluded canyon.
The Pit is known for its big hatches of stoneflies starting in the spring and lasting through the summer and also for the big hatches of Caddis in the evenings. The best fly fishing technique to fish the Pit is to “high stick” or short line nymph the pocket water and when the opportunity arises, casting a dry fly in a pocket to a steadily rising trout is very exciting! The Pit River at sections #3-5 are open to fishing year round, but section #1 is seasonal.
